There is no greater price one can pay than to give one’s life in
the line of duty. Often, little can be done to lessen the pain and
fill the tremendous loss to the families and to the community.
A joint effort has resulted in the creation of a memorial to honor
officers who died in the line of duty from or in the West Park area.
The Cleveland Heroes Run, a 5-mile and 2-mile Community Race, was
created to raise funds to make this tribute possible. It will take
place on September 21st, 2008.
The West Park Cleveland Police and Fire Fighters Memorial Walkway
was built to honor these brave officers. Located on Rocky River
Drive, it begins at Edgecliff Avenue and runs north for one third
of a mile along the MetroParks canyon.
At the heart of the Memorial Walkway, set off by a scenic view,
is a granite and bronze Memorial designed by local Sculptor, Paula
Blackman, in honor of these fallen officers. It will not only recognize
the tremendous sacrifice they made, but offer their families and
the community a gathering place to honor their memory.
We are writing to ask for your participation as a Sponsor of the
Cleveland Heroes Run to help make this annual event a success. The
full benefit of sponsorship and other levels available are detailed
in the enclosed form. All proceeds will benefit the Memorial Scholarship
Fund.
This event has become an annual living tribute to these fallen
Police Officers and Fire Fighters. The event will attract significant
attention from the local media in addition to the race and safety
forces community. Over 600 runners competed in 2004; we expect even
more this year!
We ask that you remember the services the Cleveland Police and
Fire Fighters provide to you and give generously in honor of these
fallen officers.
Thank you in advance for your support.
